Introduction to Dr Ana Bosco’s work

Dr Ana Bosco works exclusively with composite of high aesthetic performance using the incremental technique. Also known as stratification, this is a freehand technique where the use of different layers of composite produces results that mimic the natural aesthetic of dental tissue and its optical properties. Therefore, it can be thought of as a work of art, sculpting the composite layer by layer directly onto the tooth. Dr Ana Bosco has been practising this art for over 30 years.

Sculpting teeth directly in the patient’s mouth demands a lot of training to master the material and be able to reproduce all the anatomical details (form, size, colour, texture, opacity, translucence, and shine) in order to offer an aesthetic result that appears as natural as possible. Besides reproducing all the visible aesthetics, it is of utmost importance to respect gum health and chewing function, which also demands a lot of knowledge and skill from the professional.

Our approach

Procedure

01

Book a cosmetic consultation

In this first consultation, we will determine what bothers you about your smile and what you would like to change in your smile’s appearance. I will perform a bite analysis and check the shape, shade size and all other details that are necessary for a complete cosmetic evaluation. With all this information, we will discuss treatment options and their estimated prices. The patient will have an opportunity to look at many similar cases done by me and clarify any doubts.

02

Undergo necessary treatments prior to cosmetic treatment

For some patients, some treatments are necessary before starting cosmetic treatment, such as dental whitening, dental hygiene, or a mock-up (a try-in that simulates the final outcome). If needed, these procedures must be done before any cosmetic treatment with composite. If they are not needed, we can continue to the next step, which is the cosmetic treatment itself.

03

Perform the cosmetic treatment with composite

In this visit, I will perform the cosmetic treatment as was agreed with the patient. The length of this session will depend on the number of teeth being treated and the type of procedure, meaning it can vary from one hour to seven hours of treatment. For complex cases that require more time, there will be breaks for the patient and dental professionals to stand up, eat and relax.

04

Book a post-treatment consultation

It is recommended that you attend a post-treatment consultation after some days of cosmetic treatment for a final touch with a few adjustments, if necessary. For patients that need a mouth guard, it is important to attend this visit to try it on and have it adjusted.

05

Book a maintenance consultation

Maintenance consultations with the dentist are recommended to happen between once and twice a year. In these visits, your teeth treated with composite will be polished to remove superficial stains and to maintain their shine. This contributes towards your cosmetic treatment’s longevity. The frequency of these consultations will depend on your lifestyle and daily dental hygiene.

Solutions

Personalised and efficient treatments

Thanks to their evolution, composites of high aesthetic performance can transform your smile in a quick and conservative way at accessible prices. This cosmetic treatment can increase your self-esteem and let you smile with pleasure.

With every cosmetic alteration, there is generally more than one treatment option. The final decision always rests with the patient. The cases shown on this website were done by Dr Ana Bosco and serve to exemplify some of the many possibilities where composite can be used. All cases were done using the freehand technique, sculpting the composite layer by layer directly onto the tooth.

Almost all cases done with direct composite are done without any drilling to the dental tissue. Therefore, the use of composite is painless (does not require anaesthetics), generally non-invasive and the restorative treatment itself is done in a single visit.
